About the Game

A short Proof Of Concept/Prototype for an srpg rogue-lite game I'm working on.

The game follows a fire emblem-like style of gameplay with slay the spire-like node based progression between chapters/levels.

The main concept is a smaller fire emblem game with a story that spans over multiple runs. It will be challenging and will take many attempts with no chances to restart a level, only playing until death and starting over from the beginning. As you play some items, gold, units, and such will carry over to make progression easier.

Each run will be relatively quick, with a successful run to the end lasting roughly a couple hours and an average run lasting 1 hour or less.

Each run will consist of 10 Chapters with 6 levels in each chapter. The first 5 levels are selected by the user with the 6th being the boss fight. Levels 1-5 will be quick while the boss fights will be more around the size of a normal Fire Emblem chapter.

The main story will progress as you complete different requirements throughout multiple runs.

The gameplay itself will be similar to a regular srpg game with influence from gba era fire emblem and with streamlined unit building and leveling.


the game will feature:

  • Randomly generated maps
  • Randomly generated encounters
  • Node progression between levels, includes multiple nodes such as shops, rest sites, treasure, and mystery events
  • Units are recruited through hiring as mercenaries and different recruitment events as a run progresses.
  • Generic units that are weaker but can be recruited cheaply to pad out your roster.
  • Abilities that can be used for different effects in battle (aoe spells, buffs, etc)
  • No Restarting levels/chapters, just one attempt at victory each run.
  • Support levels - support levels will allow you to bring units between runs, get stat boosts for the unit, and unlock new skills and classes for them.
  • Multiple level types - game will include different types of levels based on the type of kingdom, including generic medieval fantasy, floating continent, and Island nation. Each of these will be populated with more units relating to the theme. (more pirates for islands, fliers for floating, etc).

The Main game's story synopsis:

Banished from your home as a child due to a coup staged against their father, the king, our young lord has returned to their kingdom in order to reclaim the throne. Unfortunately the new king is too powerful and easily crushes the young lord’s rebellion before it can truly begin. Looking up at the king and waiting for the final blow to end them, the lord notices everything has frozen. A young woman approaches them claiming to be a goddess. “I can allow you to try again… but it will cost you” she says. Prepared to defeat the evil king at any cost, the lord agrees and thus begins the cycle of the young lord trying again and again to take their rightful place on the throne, gaining experience, skills, and new allies with each attempt.

Will the young lord ever be able to end the cycle and defeat the king? Will that truly even end the cycle of endless fighting? Who is this woman claiming to be a goddess and why is she helping us? All of these questions and more will be answered in my (currently) untitled rogue-lite game in development!

The game will have control prompts for most of the other controls.

Known Bugs:

- The game was not built to run in browser, so expect many bugs when doing so.

- random issues with trading and duplicating unit items when open and closing menu repeatedly

- cursor in battle does not change direction when holding down arrow keys

Notes:

Currently being developed solely by me (lobstorgi), therefore all of the art is currently just placeholders.

I am currently looking for an artist to work with for Character art and Pixel art as well as a musician to create the soundtrack and help with sound effects.

Open to Revenue share, payment, or a mix of both.

Download and extract zip file. Run the unity executable,  be sure to keep everything in the folder.
